Fire Damages Motel
One guest was injured and three rooms damaged when a fire broke out around 2 a.m. at the Firestation Motel in Garden Grove, police said. The motel, a fixture in the city since 1958, sustained $33,000 in damage.
A lodger, whose name was not available Saturday, was treated for smoke inhalation at Garden Grove Medical Center and listed in fair condition, Sgt. Joe Johnson said.
Garden Grove firefighters responded to the scene and found one room consumed by flames, Johnson said.
The fire was quickly extinguished, but not before it caused smoke damage to two other rooms, said Ray Mohn, the motel’s general manager.
The motel took its fire station motif from a vintage fire truck parked in front of the motel for years.
Cause of the fire has not yet been determined, Johnson said.
