An early morning fire at an Alhambra apartment complex, believed to have been started when pranksters set a discarded Christmas tree afire, caused more than $500,000 damage as it roared through 10 units of the building. Seventeen firefighters battled the blaze at 915 S. Marguerita Ave. for an hour before they brought the flames under control. All residents of the complex were evacuated safely.
