Gallagher Leads Titans by Stanford

Meg Gallagher scored 19 points and had 5 rebounds Saturday night to lead Cal State Fullerton past Stanford, 66-51, in the Western Collegiate Athletic Assn. opener for both at Palo Alto.

Fullerton (1-0 in conference, 10-4 overall) trailed the Cardinal (0-1, 5-8) by six early in the game but then scored 12 unanswered points to take the lead for good.

Fullerton led by four at halftime, 26-22, and didn’t take control of the game until 16 minutes remained. Leading, 30-26, the Titans outscored Stanford, 11-2.

“We played rather tight in the first half and let Stanford stay close,” Fullerton Coach Chris Gobrecht said. “But we came out in the second half with renewed enthusiasm and were able to play much more effectively.” Robin Holmes had 14 points and teammate Terri Withers added 12 for Fullerton.

Chapman 76, UC Riverside 52--The Panthers, the nation’s top-ranked NCAA Division II team, remained unbeaten in conference at Riverside.

The Panthers set a school record with 76 rebounds, led by Delisa Carter and Leone Patterson, who pulled down 14 each. Patterson had 19 points to lead five Chapman players in double figures. Becky Swift had 19 points and Liz Lattimer 14 for Riverside.

Chapman is 2-0 in CCAA play, 13-2 overall.
