Steve Taylor of Lincoln High School in San Diego, who topped Nebraska Coach Tom Osborne’s list of prep quarterback prospects, says he’ll sign a national letter of intent with the Cornhuskers on Feb. 13.

Taylor, a 6-foot 1-inch, 185-pounder, was an All-CIF selection last season. He threw for 1,800 yards and 18 touchdowns and rushed for 672 yards and 12 touchdowns while leading Lincoln to a 7-4 record. As a junior, he passed for 1,763 yards and rushed for 642 on a 7-3 team.

Taylor’s oral commitment, following a visit to Washington, increased Nebraska’s scholarship total to 21 and cleared the path for him to follow in the footsteps of his idol, Turner Gill.

Taylor met Gill last month on his visit to Nebraska. The meeting came shortly after Taylor’s high school jersey was retired.
