San Diego Prep Baseball : Point Loma High Outhits Kearny for Tournament Championship

Share

Kearny High School has one of the better hitting baseball teams in San Diego County. But the Komets’ opponents tend to have their better hitting games against Kearny.

“Our weak point is definitely pitching,” said Kearny Coach Steve Soldi. “We’re going to have to score a dozen runs to win games.”

Soldi’s comments seemed on target Saturday afternoon when Kearny had 28 hits in two games but could earn only a split in the Goodman/Pirate tournament at Carlsbad High.

Catcher Alan Ford had three hits and three RBIs, and first baseman Parry Moss drove in three runs with a first-inning home run for Kearny (4-1). Greg Hedgecoth added two hits and two RBIs. David Portugal (3-0) was the winner. Chris Bye had a triple, two singles and three RBIs for the Komets.
