Next week could be a big one for Ten Goose Boxing.

The North Hollywood organization will have two of its fighters in the ring, with no titles but a lot of prestige at stake.

Frankie Duarte of Venice will face World Boxing Assn. bantamweight champion Richie Sandoval in a non-title fight Tuesday night at Sacramento Memorial Auditorium.

Duarte, 30, is 3-0 since ending a three-year retirement that he spent fighting off alcoholism. He is 35-5 overall. In his last fight, he barely decisioned Carlos Conchola after suffering a bad bruise of the left eye in the second round.

Things certainly get no easier for Duarte. His opponent Tuesday night is 25-0 with 17 knockouts. Sandoval, from Pomona, won his title a year ago, knocking out Jeff Chandler in the 15th round, and has since made a pair of title defenses.

On Thursday, Ten Goose middleweight Michael Nunn (3-0 after a 168-8 record as an amateur) will meet Las Vegas’ Larry Welch at the Showboat Hotel and Casino in Welch’s hometown.

It has been only 10 days since Nunn, of North Hollywood by way of Davenport, Iowa, knocked out Robert Jackson at 1:22 of the first round of their main event at Reseda’s Country Club.
