The Padres traded first baseman Joe Lansford to the Oakland A’s on Wednesday, receiving Triple-A infielder Jim Pyznarski in return.

Pyznarski will join the Las Vegas Stars, where General Manager Jack McKeon said he’ll play first base. Pyznarski apparently has power as he hit 28 home runs in 124 games with Albany in 1983. Last year, he was limited to playing just 31 games in Tacoma because of a shoulder injury. He was Oakland’s first-round choice in the 1981 June draft.

Lansford joins the same organization as his older brother, Carney, the A’s starting third baseman. Joe Lansford played in six games for the Padres this spring, going 1 for 6, his one hit being a double.

“We had outrighted Joe, and he had no options left,” McKeon said. “ . . . We felt it was in his best interest to move to a club where he might get a chance to play.”

Padre Notes

The Padres played their last game in their brown uniforms on Thursday and lost, 12-10, to the California Angels. Reliever Tim Stoddard got the loss. His spring stats now read: 15 innings pitched, 21 hits given up, 17 runs given up, 15 earned, 11 walks and 10 strikeouts. Padre management has been a little disappointed. . . . The Padres lost the game when they gave up six runs in the seventh inning. San Diego had two four-run innings, and center fielder Kevin McReynolds hit an inside-the-park home run. . . . The Padres play San Diego State tonight at San Diego Jack Murphy Stadium and then meet the Minnesota Twins on Saturday and Sunday to close out their exhibition season. Prior to the Aztec game, Padre right fielder Tony Gwynn will battle brother Chris (of San Diego State) in a home run hitting contest. . . . The San Diego Cable Sports Network is offering Saturday night’s game against Minnesota free to television viewers via Channel 21 on Cox Cable and on Channel 31 on Southwestern Cable. The telecast begins at 6:30 p.m.
