McCarron and Her Royalty Score a Five-Length Victory
Her Royalty came from behind in the stretch Friday and breezed to a five-length victory in the $45,000 National Orange Show Purse at Santa Anita.
The 4-year-old-filly was the odds-on choice of the crowd of 28,337 and gave jockey Chris McCarron, the meeting’s leading rider, his third win of the day.
Her Royalty paid $3.40, $2.40 and $2.10. Second-place Alabama Nana returned $3.60 and $2.20, and Fan Club returned $2.20 to show. The winner, owned by Headley, Johnston & Simpson and trained by Bruce Headley, covered the 6 1/2 furlongs on a fast track in 1:15 1/5.
