Home Runs Raise Funds for Charity
A program to raise funds for charity by hitting home runs has been launched by the Sherman Oaks Little League.
Each time a youngster slugs an over-the-fence home run, a $50 contribution--pledged by a Sherman Oaks resident, business or community group--is sent to a charity of the donor’s choice. The program will run throughout the baseball season, which ends June 15.
Already, $100 has been donated to the Ronald McDonald House, where families can stay while a child is undergoing cancer treatment at Childrens Hospital of Los Angeles.
The money-generating home runs were hit by Rowell Quemuel of the Major Dodgers and Jon Eckhouse of the Major Giants. The contributions came from the Sherman Oaks Homeowners Assn. and Sherman Oaks Fashion Square.
Pledges may be made by calling league representative Gil Getlin at (818) 899-5211.
