DETROIT — Detroit Tigers Manager Sparky Anderson was hospitalized Saturday with a blood clot below his left knee after the team returned to Detroit from their final exhibition game, a team spokesman said.
Anderson, 51, was admitted to Detroit’s Henry Ford Hospital after Dr. David Collon, the Tigers’ orthopedic consultant, determined the manager had thrombophlebitis below his left knee.
Anderson will be re-examined today. It was not immediately known whether he will miss the Tigers’ American League season opener here Monday against the Cleveland Indians.
