Irving Mitchell Is Decisioned by Oh Min-kun
Oh Min-kun of South Korea defended his International Boxing Federation (IBF) featherweight title on Sunday with a unanimous decision over American challenger Irving Mitchell of Chula Vista in a 15-round title fight.
Oh, 22, was faster and more accurate in trading punches with Mitchell, 24, in front of 1,000 spectators at Kuduk gymnasium in Pusan, South Korea’s second-largest city.
Oh suffered a cut over his left eye in the sixth round but kept Mitchell off balance repeatedly with big rights to the face and body.
It was Oh’s second title defense since he won the championship with a second-round knockout over Indonesia’s Joko Arter in March, 1984. He decisioned American Peter Lampkins in his first successful title defense in Seoul last June.
The victory improved Oh’s career record to 15-2, including five knockouts. It was Michell’s second defeat against 24 victories, 14 of them by knockout.
