Downey Man Collects $10,000 for Hole in One

Frank Ames, 50, of Downey, won $10,000 Tuesday when he made a hole-in-one on the 12th hole at Recreation Park during the PPG Long Beach Grand Prix golf tournament.

Ames, who used a 5-wood on the 170-yard hole, collected his prize from the U.S. Tobacco Co., sponsors of the hole-in-one contest. Ames has been playing golf seven years. This was his first ace.
