McLain’s Sentencing Delayed
A federal judge today postponed sentencing former major league pitching star Denny McLain on racketeering and other convictions after his lawyer requested time to interview loan-shark victims.
Defense attorney Arnold Levine objected to portions of a pre-sentence report containing statements from the victims and wanted time to talk to them himself. District Judge Elizabeth A. Kovachevich rescheduled the proceeding for Thursday. McLain, 41, major league baseball’s last 30-game winner, was convicted March 16 of racketeering, conspiracy, extortion and drug dealing.
