A Greyhound bus driver is in good condition after being stabbed by an angry passenger en route to San Diego from San Bernardino, the Sheriff’s Department said Monday.

Brian Posytan was taken to Tri-City Hospital in Oceanside after he received a stab wound in his upper chest from a three-inch pocket knife blade.

Leroy Reaves, 62, of Cleveland was booked on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and is being held in the County Jail at Vista.

The bus was on California 76 near Holly Lane, in Vista, when the incident began. According to Sheriff’s Department spokesman Jim Mika, Reaves repeatedly asked Posytan if he could retrieve his luggage before the bus reached San Diego and began punching the driver when informed that his luggage would remain unavailable until the bus arrived at the downtown terminal. The stabbing occurred just after Posytan pulled the bus to the side of the road to avoid crashing, Mika said.

With the assistance of several passengers, Posytan then managed to lock the Reaves out of the bus by kicking him down the steps and out the door. Reaves then apparently tossed a rock through the bus’ windshield.

Sheriff’s deputies arrived on the scene and took Reaves into custody.
