A Monument to Waste

The widening of Bundy Drive is another case of arrogant bureaucrats running roughshod over the elderly and anyone else in their way. The City of Los Angeles just spent $600,000 paving a stretch of Bundy Drive, and already all the utilities are out there with their jackhammers and back hoes, digging it up. What’s worse, the city’s plans make the recent repaving completely useless. It will become a monument to government’s fabled ability to waste taxpayer funds.

You see, they want to widen Bundy next. To do this they are condemning property all along the route, bullying the property owners by telling them they already own the property. They also have an environmental impact report that says “more is less.” With more traffic there will be less noise and smog.

They are also taking down $2,000 trees and are going to replace two trees of equal value for every one they remove. But the widening of the street will place the curb so close to the houses as to almost eliminate the front lawns entirely. They are either going to have to plant the trees in the street or in our living rooms.

The continuing actions by government in this matter reflect the worst examples I have ever seen of wasting taxes for no good purpose, and in the process hurting the common person. Hopefully, taxpayers will wake up to the fact that $600,000 of their hard-earned funds have already been wasted and fight to ensure that more doesn’t follow.
