Golf Roundup : Sheehan Has a 68, Leads by Two at Hilton Head
Patty Sheehan shot a four-under-par 68 Friday to take a two-shot lead in the rain-delayed $200,000 Women’s Invitational at Moss Creek Plantation on Hilton Head Island, S.C.
Sheehan had a 36-hole total of 138. Despite holding the lead, she said a three-hour rain delay distracted her.
“This weather requires even greater patience,” said Sheehan, who is second on the Ladies Professional Golfers Assn. money list. “One must play in all kinds of weather. Over the seasons, it balances out.”
Donna White shot a 69 Friday and was at 140. Joining White in second place was Kathy Baker, who had a 71.
Local favorite and PGA Tour rookie Jeff Sluman fired his second seven-under-par 65 to retain the lead in the second round of the $200,000 Tallahassee Open at Tallahassee, Fla.
John Stark, who shared the first-round lead with Sluman, shot a 74 and fell nine shots behind.
Sluman, a graduate of nearby Florida State University, moved three shots ahead with a two-round total of 130.
Second was another FSU graduate, Kenny Knox, who added a 65 to his first-round 68.
