College Baseball : Perry’s HR Helps UC Irvine End Season With Win
UC Irvine’s baseball team rallied for six runs in the ninth inning to defeat the University of Nevada Las Vegas, 14-12, Sunday at Las Vegas in the Anteaters’ last Pacific Coach Athletic Assn. game of the season.
UCI (11-16 in league and 24-31-1 overall) finished its season in third place behind Cal State Fullerton and Las Vegas in the PCAA’s South Division.
The Anteaters were led by Bob Perry, who went 2 for 4, with two home runs--a solo in the eighth and a three-run HR in the ninth. Also contributing to UCI’s 18 hits were Paul Hammond (3 for 5 with one homer and two RBIs), Brady Anderson (3 for 4 with four RBIs, two doubles and two runs scored) and Tom Baine (2 for 5 with four runs scored).
The Rebels got two-run home runs by Mike Oblesbee and Jim Pace. Scott Louis took the loss, despite 14 hits for Las Vegas.
Kevin Kandalaft (1-1) pitched two-thirds of an inning to get the win for UCI. Bo Kent picked up the save, his fifth of the year.
