Police arrested a 27-year-old man Monday on suspicion of stabbing an unidentified bar patron in an argument over a pool game, authorities said.

The victim, a man in his middle to late 20s whom police have been unable to identify, was in critical condition Monday with stab wounds to the chest, back and legs at UCI Medical Center in Orange, police said.

Sgt. Dick Bower said officers were called to break up a fight at the Gemini Bar in the 300 block of North Harbor Boulevard shortly before 1 a.m. Monday. Upon arrival, they discovered the victim lying outside in the street.

Officers took Valentin Sotelo Amaro, 28, of Santa Ana into custody several blocks away. Amaro was booked on suspicion of attempted murder and was being held in lieu of $25,000 bail at the Orange County Jail.

Bower said the argument apparently erupted over a pool game. A knife believed to be the weapon used in the attack was seized as evidence.
