Titans’ Fishel Signs With Houston
Cal State Fullerton outfielder John Fishel, drafted in the ninth round by the Houston Astros, has signed a contract to play for Houston’s Class A minor league team, the Auburn Astros of the New York-Penn League.
Fishel, the Most Valuable Player of the 1984 College World Series won by Cal State Fullerton, is expected to play second or third base for the Astros.
Houston also signed Mike Simms of Esperanza High School to a contract with their Gulf Coast League team, the Sarasota Astros. Simms, a sixth-round draft choice, is expected to play third base for that team and will report to Sarasota immediately following his June 19 graduation.
A third player signed by Houston Friday was Ron Roebuck, a junior pitcher at USC. Roebuck, a graduate of Lakewood High School, is the son of former Dodger pitcher Ed Roebuck, who is now a scout with the Cincinnati Reds.
