Imperial Beach
The state Coastal Conservancy approved a $1.72-million package of loans and grants Thursday for beachfront restoration in Imperial Beach.
At a meeting in Sacramento, the conservancy agreed to provide a $1.1-million loan to buy land for Dunes Park, a spokeswoman said. The other $625,000 will be a grant for the design and construction of the Pier Park, to be where the Imperial Beach pier parking lot is. The Dunes Park parcel is between Palm Avenue and Date, and runs from the ocean to Seacoast Drive. The conservancy said the one-acre plot “will form the core of Dunes Park.”
The Coastal Conservancy is a state agency designed to protect the coast. It awards grants and loans to local governments, and undertakes coastal projects itself.
