A greenish tint to local drinking water is due to a recent growth of algae in one of the city’s main reservoirs, a spokesman for the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power said. The algae, which has also caused an apple-like odor in the water supply, “does not pose a health problem, the water is still perfectly safe to drink,” said Laurent McReynolds, assistant chief engineer. The DWP is treating the water at the Los Angeles Reservoir in Sylmar and will know in a few days if the treatment has been successful, McReynolds said.
