Barons’ Snowden to Attend Arizona

Fountain Valley High School pitcher Don Snowden has signed a national letter of intent to attend the University of Arizona, Wildcat Coach Jerry Kindall announced.

Snowden, a 6-foot 1-inch, 175-pound left-hander, was 7-3 with five saves and an earned-run average of 1.10 in 1985. He struck out 111 batters and also hit .326 with 4 home runs.

Snowden was the winning pitcher in the Barons’ 3-2 victory over Camarillo in the Southern Section 4-A division championship game in Anaheim Stadium.

Snowden was selected by the Minnesota Twins in the 22nd round of the free agent draft earlier this month. Fountain Valley teammate Bob Sharpnack signed a contract with the California Angels last week and was assigned to the team’s minor league team in Salem, Ore.
