Fire caused an estimated $50,000 damage to three apartment units Monday in Van Nuys, a Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman said.

The fire broke out in a parking garage at about 3:30 p.m. and spread to an adjoining apartment building. The fire was confined to the roof of the apartments at 6555 Sepulveda Blvd., Fire Department spokesman Greg Acevedo said.

It took firefighters from 16 companies about an hour to put out the fire. Firefighters also used a helicopter to drop water on the fire.
