Authorities say they have not been able to link the slayings of two Arcadia women found murdered in their homes within the last week. The two murders were the first reported in Arcadia this year. Only one murder was reported in the city last year.

The body of the first victim, Patty Elaine Higgins, 32, was found Friday morning in the bathroom of her home on Naomi Avenue. The second victim was Mary Louise Cannon, 75, whose body was found in her Haven Avenue home Tuesday. Higgins had been beaten on the chest and shoulders and Cannon died of injuries to the upper portion of her body.

Arcadia police and sheriff's deputies involved in the investigations said the two women lived alone. The Cannon residence had been ransacked and police said there was no way to determine whether the Higgins home had been disturbed.
