Area Recreation Centers Offer Free Lunches to Poor Children

Share

Free lunches will be served to children in economically disadvantaged areas on weekdays through Aug. 29 under a program sponsored by the Los Angeles city and county departments of parks and recreation.

Funded by the U. S. Department of Agriculture, the program is an extension of the free- and reduced-price lunch programs in effect during school sessions in the Los Angeles Unified School District. Participating recreation and community centers qualify for the program if half the students enrolled in the school nearest the center were on the free- and reduced-price lunch programs.

A cold box lunch consisting of a sandwich, two kinds of fruit, white or chocolate milk and a cookie, raisins or potato chips will be served for two hours continuously at each center on weekdays on a first-come, first-served basis. Beginning serving times will vary.
