The California Supreme Court today ruled that a 1980 law aimed at stopping piracy of pay-TV signals falls short of outlawing sale of satellite dishes designed to pick up the signals.

The unanimous ruling reverses the conviction of two Sacramento area electronics dealers, Harold Babylon and Douglas Hyatt, who were fined $630 each for the sale of the equipment needed to pick up Home Box Office and other popular subscription television programing.
