Curt Marsh’s exhibition season ended early. The starting Raider left guard broke his right arm in a drill Sunday and he’ll be out for the next six weeks.

“After that, he’ll need some time to rehab it,” said Coach Tom Flores. The regular season starts in six weeks.

Flores: “It was a freak thing. He was pulling and blocking a defensive back (Vann McElroy) and he must have gotten hit just right. In the film, it looked like his arm hit off the defender’s pad. We immediately X-rayed it. It’s broken.

“We had never had a player hurt in that drill in all the years we’ve run it.

“I feel bad for Curt. He’s said he felt better than he had in two years. He looked good, he looked strong, he was running well. Everything was positive. I feel bad for him. I feel bad for all of us.”

Marsh, one of the Raiders’ top young linemen, suffered a back injury in camp in 1983 and missed the entire season. Charlie Hannah took over the position and started in the Super Bowl.

Marsh returned in 1984 and won his job back at mid-season.

Flores said Hannah is the No. 1 left guard again. Dwight Wheeler, a free agent who joined the team late last season, becomes the new third guard. Don Mosebar remains an ex-guard. Flores said he’ll keep working at center.

Raider Notes Bob Nelson, the unsigned linebacker, remains out of camp. His agent, Howard Slusher, and the Raiders have talked, but they weren’t in touch Sunday. . . . The Raiders don’t announce signings, but they are reported to have concluded the Marcus Allen renegotiation. “Marcus’ contract has been done,” said a club official. . . . Tim Moffett, the No. 3 draft choice who was impressive in rookie camp, tried to return to drills, but his sore back continued to bother him and the coaches pulled him out. Moffett led both teams with seven pass receptions in the two Cowboy scrimmages, but got crunched between two Dallas players making a leaping catch in Thousand Oaks last Tuesday. His back has been sore since.
