The former owner of a kennel where 124 dead or emaciated animals were found will gain $12,000 from the $100,000 sale of his property, San Joaquin County Deputy Dist. Atty. Stephen Taylor said. The rest of the money will go to cover the prosecution of Henry Knudsen, 58, and the handling of starving dogs and cats after authorities raided Knudsen’s facility near Lathrop. Authorities found 37 dead dogs and cats and 87 ailing animals when they responded to reports of noise and stench at the kennel last November. Pets & Pals, an animal welfare organization, later bought the property to turn it into a refuge for homeless dogs and cats. Knudsen pleaded no contest to four misdemeanor counts of cruelty to animals rather than face trial. He was sentenced to six months in jail and fined $2,000.
