A judge issued a temporary restraining order that prevents the World Boxing Assn. from stripping Marvelous Marvin Hagler of his world middleweight title if he fights John Mugabi.
The WBA constitution requires a champion to defend his title against the WBA’s top-ranked contender within six months of the champion’s previous fight, said Morris M. Goldings, Hagler’s attorney.
Hagler has signed to fight the unbeaten Mugabi in Las Vegas Nov. 14, which will be nearly seven months after last his previous fight. James Shuler is the WBA’s No. 1 middleweight contender.
