Rodia’s Towers?

Your story of July 28 on Rodia’s Watts Towers and the arts festival that celebrated their unveiling after restoration, were a timely reminder to the entire community of this wonderful creation.

More often than not the Towers are designated the Watts Towers, rather than Rodia’s Towers, and it occurs to me that it is time to designate them appropriately and correctly as Sabato Rodia’s Watts Towers. If any part of the designation is dropped, it should not be the name of their creator.

I can understand the attachment and pride the neighbors and the people of Watts feel for the Towers and their desire to be identified with them. However, I am sure they would be the first to say that the man who created them should have his name prominently, permanently and correctly used to designate them. This will take a bit of doing since habit dies hard, but it is high time for Sabato Rodia to receive top billing.
