Tito Horford, one of the most highly recruited high school basketball stars in the country, spent the better part of Monday on the campus of LSU, school officials said. A news conference scheduled Monday afternoon was canceled after NCAA officials said a meeting with reporters was not permissible.

Horford was originally headed to the University of Houston after signing a national letter of intent with the Cougars last fall while playing with Houston’s Marion Christian High School. But the NCAA ruled Horford is ineligible to play at Houston because of irregularities in his recruitment. Houston has appealed the matter.

Horford charged in a recent interview that LSU’s Brown offered illegal inducements to his family. Brown has refused to discuss the recruitment.

A statement on Horford’s eligibility is expected to be issued by the NCAA today.
