Conference Scheduled on Preservation Technology

The 1985 annual conference of the Assn. for Preservation Technology will be held Thursday through Saturday at the Sheraton-Palace hotel, San Francisco, preceded by a three-day series of professional training courses.

The conference theme is “Technology of Systems and the Conservation of Materials.” Topics to be covered include concrete stabilization, terra cotta restoration and repair, mechanical/electrical systems in historic buildings, metals in historic buildings, substitute materials, interior finishes and transportation systems.

Tours to examples of San Francisco’s rich and diverse architectural heritage are planned. The plenary session will be keynoted by talks on the restoration of the Statue of Liberty and the San Francisco cable car system, a national historic landmark.

The training courses, Sept. 2-4, will cover deterioration and preservation of architectural concrete, paint analysis and application, seismic retrofit, and maritime preservation. They will include workshops, site visits and discussions.

Registration is open to the public. The cost of the training courses to association members is $350, to non-members $385 and to students $300; of the conference, $75 to members, $110 to non-members and $50 a day to students.
