A wildfire, possibly started by an arsonist, blackened more than 1,700 acres of brushland in the foothills six miles northwest of Vacaville, according to the state Division of Forestry. A dozen homes in nearby Miller Canyon were threatened briefly, but a shift in the wind halted plans for a possible evacuation. More than 420 state and county firefighters were battling the blaze.
