San Diego Roundup : Fejarang Gets a Kick Out of Leading Crawford to a Win Over University City

Share

Crawford High quarterback Tommy Fejarang kicked the winning touchdown in the Colts’ 7-0 win over host University City Friday afternoon.

Fejarang’s foot enabled him to hook up with running back Dewey Brown on a highly unusual scoring play. With the ball on the University City five-yard line late in the second quarter, Fejarang rolled right. When he tried to pitch the ball, it rolled down his leg and he kicked it into the end zone. Brown pounced on the loose ball for six points.

Ken Tan added the extra point to give the eighth-ranked Colts a 7-0 lead in the season opener for both teams. Moments later, University City defensive back Kenny King returned a punt 98 yards for a touchdown, but it was nullified by a clipping penalty.

Late in the fourth quarter, the punting game fell apart for Crawford. University City’s Francisco Von Borstel and Greg Cleveland blocked Fejarang’s punt and defensive back Earl Rose recovered it on the Colt four-yard line. Running back Paul MacRenato gained three yards to the one and quarterback Brian Sexton picked up a few inches on a sneak.
