A leading amateur drag racer was killed when his dragster crashed during the International Hot Rod Assn.’s Fall Nationals at Bristol, Tenn.
Don Young, 38, of Carrollton, Ga., had just completed a quarter-mile run against Eric Hinderberger of Cincinnati when his entry in the Top Sportsman category, traveling at 145 m.p.h., smashed into the left guardrail. Young was thrown from the dragster. No other injuries were reported.
