West San Fernando Valley Councilman Hal Bernson won Los Angeles City Council approval Friday for a resolution urging the federal government to help create a multinational rescue team that would provide emergency relief to earthquake-stricken areas anywhere in the world.
A copy of Bernson’s proposal will be sent to the U. S. State Department.
Citing the devastation caused by the recent earthquake in Mexico, Bernson said, “One can only speculate how many lives might have been saved if there had been a trained cadre of experts and the needed rescue equipment available on short notice.”
