Chapman Defeats Cal Poly Pomona, 4-1

The Chapman College men’s soccer team scored three goals in the second overtime period Wednesday to defeat Cal Poly Pomona, 4-1, in California Collegiate Athletic Assn. match at Pomona.

Chapman is 2-1 in conference and 5-6 overall. Pomona is 1-2 and 3-8-1.

Pomona’s Tyrone Grehan opened the scoring with a goal at the 10:06 mark. Chapman’s Rick Snyder tied the score at the 39:10 mark.

The score remained tied after the first overtime.

In the second overtime, the Panthers’ Scott McCrimmon scored from 10 yards away for Chapman’s first lead of the game. Teammate Michael Perry headed the ball into the goal with 4:20 gone to make it 3-1 and Miguel Tapia scored Chapman’s last goal on a penalty kick.

The Panthers’ next match is at Cal State Bakersfield Saturday.

In men’s nonconference soccer action:

San Diego State 1, UC Irvine 0--San Diego State’s Steve Guillot scored the match’s only goal after a corner kick to defeat the Anteaters at Irvine. San Diego State is 4-5-2, Irvine 2-7-1.

United States International University 1, Cal State Fullerton 0--Gary Vandermoelen’s goal led the Gulls (8-4-1) past the Titans (6-3) at Fullerton.
