San Diego Volleyball Roundup : Pankopf Returns From Injury to Lead Aztecs Over UNLV

Middle-blocker Renee Pankopf, sidelined for two weeks by a back injury, returned to action Friday night and led San Diego State to a three-game victory over Pacific Coast Athletic Assn. rival Nevada-Las Vegas at Peterson Gym.

Pankopf had nine kills and six service aces for the No. 14 Aztecs (18-10, 3-4) as they beat the Rebels (6-8, 2-5), 15-12, 15-10, 15-5. SDSU remained in sixth place in the PCAA.

Two other Aztecs, Angelica Jackson and Kris Morton, also had six kills. Kim Harsch added 12 digs for SDSU.

In other action:

Santa Clara 3, U.S. International 2--Despite 21 kills by Claudia Johnson and 19 by Nancy Dome, USIU lost, 15-9, 15-12, 12-15, 6-15, 15-3 to Santa Clara in West Coast Athletic Conference action at UC San Diego. Siobahn Saunders led the Broncos (10-12, 3-1) with 15 kills, while teammate Laura Hollis added 12 kills. USIU fell to 1-2 in conference play and 7-11 overall.

University of San Francisco 3, University of San Diego 1--Kathy Schindler had 14 kills to lead the Dons (12-6, 2-2) to a 15-12, 14-16, 15-5, 15-6 West Coast Athletic Conference victory at USD (0-15, 0-3). Gina Trapletti had 12 kills and 11 digs and Kris Mitchell added 11 kills for the Toreros.
