Garden Grove League : Garden Grove Earns First Victory, 23-7

Garden Grove High School defeated Rancho Alamitos, 23-7, in a Garden Grove League game Friday at Garden Grove Stadium.

The Argonauts were led by running backs Joey Fletcher and Carlos Ornelas, who combined to score all of the Argonauts’ points. Fletcher scored on touchdown runs of 1 and 18 yards, while Ornelas scored on a 4-yard run, kicked a 25-yard field goal and added 3 extra points.

It was the first win of the season for Garden Grove, which gained 224 yards rushing. Fletcher and Ornelas led the Argonauts on the ground, as each gained 79 yards. Rancho Alamitos had a minus 27 yards in total offense. Rancho Alamitos also lost three fumbles.

Ornelas missed an opportunity to score another touchdown, when his 99-yard interception return was called back because of a clipping penalty.

In other Garden Grove League action:

Bolsa Grande 10, Santiago 0--Running back Ken Torress and kicker Robert Schockley led the Matadors to the win over previously undefeated Santiago. Schockley kicked a 28-yard field goal, while Torress later scored on a six-yard touchdown run to insure the win for Bolsa Grande.
