Weber State Sets Division I-AA Record With 800 Yards Total Offense in 57-29 Win
Dave Stireman passed for 428 yards and rushed for 118 Saturday to pace Weber State to an NCAA Division I-AA record 800 yards in total offense as the Wildcats beat Montana, 57-29, in a Big Sky Conference game.
The Wildcats had 372 yards rushing as they broke the Division I-AA single-game total offense record of 780 yards set by Tennessee State in 1983.
Stireman completed 26 of 44 passes with touchdown throws of 3 and 20 yards to Craig Slama and Davey Davis, respectively. The senior quarterback also ran for scores of 38, 10 and 25 yards to help the Wildcats improve to 4-4 and 2-3 in the Big Sky.
Montana dropped to 2-6 and 1-4.
Senior tailback Freddie Cook also added to Weber State’s offense output, rushing for 125 yards and scoring on runs of 9 and 41 yards.
Trailing 21-17 at the start of the second half, Weber State scored 27 unanswered points in the third quarter. Stireman ran for his three touchdowns, and Cook rushed for one score in that span.
