Bernstein Advances in Teaching Pro Tournament
Top-seeded Paul Bernstein of Fullerton defeated Richard Slick of Buena Park, 6-2, 7-5, Saturday in the second round of the Southern California Teaching Pro Championships at the Laguna Niguel Tennis Club.
Second-seeded Kurt Stadler of Irvine defeated Rancho Santa Fe’s Bob Fullerton, 6-3, 6-4, and Tony Trear of San Diego, the third seed, beat Michael Hodge of Granda Hills, 6-2, 6-1.
Fourth-seeded Sean Brawley of Pacific Palisades beat Brett Johnson of Lomita, 6-2, 6-1, and No. 5 Mike Fedderly of Costa Mesa defeated Stephen Becker of Torrance, 6-1, 6-3. Yorba Linda’s Eric Sherbeck, the sixth seed, defeated Ruben Millado of Cerritos, 6-4, 6-0, and No. 7 Tom Leonard of South Pasadena defeated Zeke Straw of Marina del Rey, 6-4, 7-6. Play continues today.
