Fire Hazard

My reaction to Joanne Rife’s article (Editorial Pages, Oct. 16), “Life on the Brink in Fire Season,” is simply, “What an idiot.” She acknowledges that her house is a firestorm waiting to happen and then rambles on in a semi-coherent observation of “California living.”

She cannot bear to think of cutting down the trees that touch her wood shingle roof and is apparently unwilling to replace the wood shingles with asbestos.

Well, I am unwilling to spend my tax money to replace her house when, not if, it burns to the ground. Unfortunately I will, because to withhold it would result in prosecution by the state.

This is California living. These are thoughts from reality.
