Fire did an estimated $1.5-million damage to a computer manufacturing firm in Torrance. Investigators said plant workers told them the blaze began near the motor of a machine that grinds aluminum discs for computer panels at Athama Inc., a factory in the 1800 block of Mullin Avenue. Although some hazardous materials are used in the plant’s manufacturing processes, none were involved in the fire, which was extinguished in less than an hour by two dozen firefighters.
