Westdome Developers Are Ready to File NBA Application
Developers of Westdome, a proposed 18,500-seat domed arena in Santa Ana, are expected to present National Basketball Assn. Commissioner David Stern with a check for $100,000 and a formal application for an NBA franchise at a news conference Friday in Santa Ana.
Investors in the Westdome project are hopeful of either attracting an existing franchise to the arena or of being awarded an expansion franchise when the league expands, which could happen as early as next season.
Plans for the $35 million arena call for the complex to be built on seven acres of a 17-acre, city-owned parcel of land now occupied by Santa Ana Stadium.
