Sandoval and Avila to Fight Today

Pomona’s Richard Sandoval (26-0), the World Boxing Assn. bantamweight champion, will box Diego Avila (27-2-1) of Mexico City today in a non-title bout at the Cal Poly Pomona gym.

On the undercard, Hector Lopez, the Glendale Hoover High graduate who won the 1984 Olympic featherweight silver medal for Mexico, will fight Joe Perez of East Los Angeles. Lopez is 5-0 as a pro.

Tickets are scaled from $35 to $15. Boxing will begin at 1 p.m.
