Movie Designer Helen Rose Dies

PALM SPRINGS — Movie costume designer Helen Rose, who won Oscars for “The Bad and the Beautiful” and “I’ll Cry Tomorrow” in the 1950s, has died at her Palm Springs home after a long illness, it was learned today. She was 81.
Rose, nominated 10 times for Academy Awards, designed costumes for more than 200 films before opening her own costume business in 1966. She designed the “Cat” cocktail dress for Elizabeth Taylor in “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof” and, offscreen, she made the wedding gown for the 1956 marriage of Grace Kelly to Prince Rainier of Monaco.
