Arredondo Stops Valdez in Second
Rene Arredondo, the World Boxing Council’s No. 1 junior-welterweight contender, warmed up for a possible shot at the title with a second-round knockout of Eduardo Valdez Wednesday night at the Olympic Auditorium.
Arredondo (37-1), of Michoacan, Mexico, knocked down Valdez (15-3-2), of Newark, N.J., in both rounds before referee Chuck Hassett stopped the fight at 2:23 in the second round of the 10-rounder.
