Community College Men’s Basketball : Oklahoma Transfer Scores 28 to Lead Orange Coast Over Citrus

Center Joe Seager scored 28 points and had 13 rebounds Friday night to lead Orange Coast College to an 85-72 nonconference win over Citrus in Peterson Gym in Costa Mesa.

Seager, a 6-foot 10-inch transfer from Oklahoma, made 13 of 17 field goals attempts as Orange Coast won its second game of the year against no losses. Citrus is 0-1.

Point guard Jon Johnston added 14 points and 9 assists for the Pirates, and Scott Clements had 12 points.

Orange Coast plays host to San Diego Mesa tonight at 7:30.

In Tip Off Tournament action:

Rancho Santiago 88, Biola JV 65--Mark Moses scored 22 points and Eric Schurman added 18 as the Dons routed the Eagle JV team.

Rancho Santiago (2-0) will play the Pomona Pitzer JV team, which it defeated Wednesday in its season opener, 93-73, for the tournament title tonight at 8.

BIOLA JV (65)--Gishweiller 4, Gunter 2, Dietzman 9, McCollum 0, Larsen 10, Watkins 6, Mata 14, Heida 4, Connolly 16.

RANCHO SANTIAGO (88)--Hata 0, Brown 10, Lee 3, Moses 22, Thomas 6, Schurman 18, Davis 2, McConnell 4, Elliott 6, Martin 8, Cole 9.

Pomona Pitzer JV 79, College of the Desert 76 (OT)--Rick Duque scored 23 points and Garrett Arima added 22 to lead the Pomona Pitzer JV team to the first-round win. Boris King of College of the Desert led all scorers with 28.

In Lee College (Tex.) Tournament action:

McLennan 59, Cypress College 58--The Chargers could not hold a 29-24 half time lead and were defeated by the Highlanders in Texas. It was the Chargers’ third loss in as many games in the round-robin tournament.

Forward Greg Marusich was the leading scorer for the Chargers with 14 points. Sophomore Paul Horn added 12. Cypress is 1-3.
