Kim Oden Named Conference MVP

Senior Kim Oden of Stanford was selected as the most valuable women’s volleyball player in the Pacific West Athletic Conference, it was announced Monday.

Oden, a 6-foot 2-inch middle blocker and graduate of Irvine High School, was the only Stanford player selected to the all-conference first team.

Her sister, Elaina, is a freshman at University of Pacific and also graduated from Irvine High School. She led the Tigers to the Pacific Coast Athletic Assn. tournament title and was named most valuable player in the tournament.

Other first team selections were: outside hitter Liz Masakayan and setter Michelle Boyette of UCLA; setter Kim Ruddins and outside hitter Tracy Clark of Southern California; middle blocker Tammy Webb of Arizona State, and middle blocker Melissa McLinden of Arizona. All are seniors except Webb, who is a junior.

Second-team choices were: setter Wendy Rush and outside hitter Barbara Fontana of Stanford; middle blocker Leslie Devereaux of Southern Cal; setter Regina Stahl of Arizona State, and middle blocker Lisa Ettesvold of UCLA.

Fred Sturm and Don Shaw of Stanford were named co-coaches of the year.
