The Region - News from Dec. 4, 1985
A 23-year-old man and a teen-age boy in an allegedly stolen 1986 sports car led officers of two counties and several cities on a wild chase at speeds up to 140 m.p.h. from the Mojave Desert to Burbank and up the Golden State Freeway before finally being captured after a collision with a patrol car north of Gorman, the California Highway Patrol reported. Kern County CHP Officer Bill Camps said the car was reported stolen from an automobile agency in Tehachapi. The car ultimately got onto the Golden State Freeway and headed north. Seven miles north of Gorman, it suddenly switched lanes, hitting the car of CHP Officer Bob Roth and slamming it into a guard rail, Camps said. The driver was identified as Lawrence Gardner. He and the juvenile passenger were booked on suspicion of burglary, vehicle theft and resisting arrest. Garder was also booked on suspicion of drunk driving.
